The world tilted. The simple act of reading the letter felt like navigating a treacherous cliff face, each word a precarious step. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the silence. It wasn't fair. This was a violation.

She pressed her palms flat against the kitchen counter, needing something solid to steady herself. Her vision blurred, and the familiar details of her kitchen – the worn wooden table, the chipped mug – seemed to shimmer and distort.

"Impossible," she managed to croak out, the sound thin and reedy. A sob escaped, followed by another, and another. She felt utterly consumed, drowning in a rising tide of panic.

She needed air, to escape the confines of the room, to flee from the encroaching doom. She bolted toward the back door, her movements bordering on frantic.
