"You'll be okay, honey. We'll figure this out," her mother said, her voice a soothing balm. But as she spoke, the reality of it all sunk in, and Anna felt something break inside. She nodded, unable to speak. The tiny crack in her composure quickly grew.

The kitchen, once a place of comfort, now felt like a prison. The stainless steel appliances gleamed, reflecting her distorted image. Her stomach churned. A wave of nausea washed over her. She gripped the counter, trying to ground herself, but it did no good.

Later, in her old bedroom, she collapsed on the bed, burying her face in the pillow. The scent of lavender, usually so calming, was now suffocating. She started to sob, a harsh, ragged sound that tore from her chest, unable to stop.
