"So, yeah, that's… the server," I mumbled, gesturing weakly toward a large, humming metal box. My throat felt constricted, like a vise was tightening around it. The newcomer, a young woman named Emily, was taking it all in with an unnerving placidity. I wanted to scream, to lash out, to just…stop. But I couldn't. I had to go through with it.

My leg bounced uncontrollably beneath the desk. I kept glancing at the clock, each second stretching out into an eternity. The spreadsheets, once familiar and manageable, now looked like cryptic hieroglyphs. I felt as if the air was being sucked out of the room. Every detail of my job felt important, and every one of them felt like a secret I was about to reveal.
