The moment the words, "Train your replacement," passed the manager's lips, something inside of him snapped. He felt a sudden, overwhelming urge to run, to escape the confines of the office, to disappear into the anonymity of the city. He could barely look at the young woman, Chloe, who was to take his place. He kept finding himself needing to clear his throat.

His hands shook so badly that he had trouble using the mouse. Every click, every keystroke, felt like a deliberate act of self-sabotage. His words came out in a jumbled rush. He felt a cold sweat prickling at his skin. He realized he didn't know how to explain his job. He had been doing it on autopilot for so long.
