The coach's words slammed into him like a physical blow. "Center forward. Your height makes you perfect." David felt the ground shift beneath his feet. He envisioned the endless hustle, the constant jostling, the physical demands of a position he’d never even considered. He felt hot, then cold, then hot again. He needed to get out, needed to be alone. He took a stumbling step backward, almost tripping over a stray water bottle. The faces of his teammates swam before his eyes, a confusing blur of concern and curiosity.
