He paced the sterile waiting area, a caged animal. Every announcement, every muffled cough from a fellow passenger, sent a fresh wave of panic through him. Sweat slicked his palms, making it impossible to hold his phone steady. He kept replaying the scene in his head, the proposal. His sister, getting down on one knee, in front of the Eiffel Tower! He was supposed to be there, not here, watching the seconds bleed away on a broken clock. "Damn you, turbulence!" he hissed under his breath, kicking a nearby suitcase, earning a glare from an elderly woman.
