Sweat beaded on Sarah's forehead, slicking her hair to her temples. Her hands trembled as she gestured wildly. "It *was* the bridge, Emily! We saw the fireworks from the bridge! How can you not remember that?" A strange, desperate laugh bubbled up from her throat, quickly followed by a sob. Emily remained seated on the park bench, her gaze fixed on the gently swaying branches of the willow tree. “I’m telling you, Sarah, we were at the beach. We built a bonfire. Remember the marshmallows?” Sarah shook her head violently, each shake intensifying the ache behind her eyes. The air seemed to compress around her, making it difficult to breathe, each inhale shallow and unsatisfying. The ground felt like it was shifting beneath her feet.
