"Congratulations," the email began. “Your transfer to the Janitorial team…” He dropped the phone, the screen shattering. He stared at the pieces on the floor, his face pale. His chest felt constricted. His breath came in short, shallow gasps.

He felt the room spinning. He stumbled backward, knocking over his chair. He didn't know what to do. He couldn't think. He felt a wave of heat wash over him, then a chilling cold.

He clutched his head, trying to make sense of what was happening. He opened his mouth, but no sound came out. The tears welled up, blurring his vision. He fell to his knees, his body trembling uncontrollably.
