He stared out the window, the cityscape blurring through a film of unshed tears. The knot in his stomach tightened with each passing second. He had spent years, sacrificing everything, to get where he was. And now? Now he was less valuable than someone who had just started.

He felt a tremor run through him, his body shaking uncontrollably. He grabbed the edge of his desk, his knuckles white with the strain. He wanted to scream, to lash out, to make them understand the depth of his frustration.

He buried his face in his hands, trying to stifle the rising tide of emotion. "It's not fair," he mumbled through his fingers, the words muffled and choked.
