Gemotions

The email sat in her inbox, a digital taunt. Her eyes burned, and she blinked rapidly to clear the vision, but the words wouldn't disappear. Twenty-eight dollars an hour. She clutched at the desk, feeling as if she might fall. The blood drained from her face.

She jumped up from her chair, pushing the chair across the floor. She slammed the door to the office, the sound echoing down the deserted hallway. Each step felt heavy.

She walked in circles, unable to sit still, her heart racing and she had to take breaths, trying to find composure.
