Sarah's vision swam. Across the kitchen table sat David, calmly sipping his coffee. She felt a bizarre pressure building in her temples, like her head was about to explode. He'd been humming, a little off-key, something she didn't recognize. Then, he'd opened his mouth and spoken. Fluent, lilting Gaelic. Her hands, balled into fists, were clammy. She felt a rising tide of disorientation. The ceramic mug rattled in its saucer as she struggled to keep her eyes focused. "Where...where did you...?" The question fractured, barely formed, before she could finish it.
