He’d found the other woman’s apartment by accident, the address scrawled on a napkin in his car. A napkin that had been clutched so tightly, he'd almost ripped it to shreds. Now, Daniel stood on her doorstep, the cheap wood of the door mocking his pounding heart. His vision blurred, and the world seemed to tilt.

When she opened the door, her eyes widened. He could see her mouth moving, saying something, but the words were lost in the roaring in his ears. He looked around. This apartment – exactly the same layout as his own, decorated with the same, infuriatingly generic taste. He felt sweat pooling on his forehead.

"You… you’re Daniel?" she stammered, her voice high and thin. He felt his face contort. He wasn't Daniel, he was… he didn’t know who he was anymore. He felt a whimper escape him. He must look like a complete fool.

He just shook his head, unable to speak, the information a lead weight in his stomach. He was done.
