The package, addressed to "Ms. Anya Petrova, Esq.", rested accusingly on the welcome mat. Anya had never heard of an "Esq." She didn't want it. She wanted to be left alone. She wanted the day to end.

She kicked the box. Hard. Then she paced, her steps uneven, her hands clenched into fists. She needed to sit down. She needed water. She needed to *think*.

She grabbed a kitchen chair, pulling it with a screech across the floor. She sat, her back stiff. Her heart thumped against her ribs, a frantic rhythm. She couldn't breathe properly. She had to get rid of it.
