The waiting room felt miles wide, the silence deafening. A cold sweat erupted on David’s skin. He felt like his heart was trying to escape his chest. Coach Thompson had requested a private meeting, and David knew what it meant. He knew. His gaze darted around the room, landing on the framed team photos on the wall. Each smiling face seemed to mock him.

He tugged at his collar, desperate for air, the fabric feeling tight and restrictive. He thought of all the sacrifices, the hours of practice, the unwavering dedication. All for what? He was almost sick.

The door opened with a sudden creak. David jumped, his nerves frayed to the breaking point. The coach’s face was etched with a sorrowful expression. The room began to spin.
