The doctor’s office felt cold, sterile. Across the desk, Dr. Lee, the therapist, stared at her with professional detachment. When she'd mentioned the shared memories, the games, the childhood adventures, Dr. Lee had tilted his head and blinked slowly, and then he’d just said, “I'm not sure I follow.”

Her fingers twisted in her lap. Her vision swam. It felt like her world was being turned inside out. The familiar contours of her life had suddenly blurred, replaced by an unsettling void.
