He read the email, reread it, and then reread it again. The words seemed to rearrange themselves with each pass, morphing into a cryptic, threatening message. A wave of nausea washed over him, leaving him weak and unsteady.

His vision blurred, and the room began to spin. He grabbed the edge of his desk, fighting to maintain his balance. The world seemed to tilt on its axis. He felt a sharp, electric jolt, as if he'd been plugged into a power socket.

He stumbled backwards, knocking over his trash can. He felt a sob rising in his chest, a sound he hadn't made since he was a child. He wanted to scream, to lash out, to rend the air with his anguish. He closed his eyes, surrendering to the overwhelming sensation.
