Gemotions

The paper shook in Amelia's trembling hands. The words blurred, but she could still make out the stark, condemning phrase: "Eviction Notice." Her breath hitched, a strangled gasp escaping her lips. She dropped the document, the crisp white sheet fluttering to the stained linoleum floor like a dying bird.

A wave of nausea washed over her. She stumbled towards the chipped porcelain sink, reaching for the cool metal rim for support. Her vision swam, the familiar cramped kitchen seemed to shrink and spin.

“No, no, no,” she whispered, the sound barely audible above the frantic pounding in her ears. Her fingers dug into her temples, trying to halt the internal chaos. The rent was always paid. Always. This couldn't be happening.

She fumbled for her phone, dialing her landlord's number with shaking fingers. The dial tone seemed to stretch on for an eternity, each ring a hammer blow against her skull.
