The paper felt like a live thing in her hand, buzzing with a malevolent energy. Sarah sat in her favorite armchair, the eviction notice resting on her lap. The words swam before her eyes.

A cold dread spread through her, chilling her to the bone. She hugged herself, trying to ward off the shivers that wracked her body. Her breath came in short, shallow gasps, as if she were running a marathon.

The room seemed to shrink, the walls closing in on her. She felt trapped, suffocated. Her fingers tightened on the arms of the chair, her knuckles turning white.

"I don't understand," she whispered, the words lost in the suffocating silence. The world spun, and everything became a blur.
