Gemotions

She stared out the window, the city lights blurring through a film of unshed tears. Across the country. The words were like a physical presence, a cold, unwelcome guest in her mind. Her chest felt constricted, making it difficult to breathe. The air felt thin, not enough for her.

She picked up her phone, scrolling through their messages, reliving the memories. Each shared joke, each inside reference, was now a painful reminder of what she was about to lose. She felt as if she was underwater, sinking.

She wanted to scream. She wanted to smash something. She wanted to claw at her own chest to try and pull the feeling out. Instead, she just stood there, completely motionless, her gaze fixed on a distant point, trying to comprehend that the world as she knew it was coming to a screeching halt.
