The grand dining room, where generations had gathered, now felt like a battleground. He felt a flush burning through his face, an explosion inside of him. His sister, Isabella, had inherited the family's art gallery, the priceless masterpieces, the prestige.

He stared, his eyes wide, at his brother.

He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture almost violent. He’d received their mother's favorite, chipped mug. He was shaking, and her eyes were trained on the will. He had gotten the collection of their grandfather's old tools, a collection of rusted metal and broken handles, and a series of cryptic, coded messages. His chest felt tight.
