The laptop screen blurred. Sarah blinked, trying to focus on the listing. "Cozy three-bedroom, move-in ready," it chirped, the jaunty tone grating on her nerves. She slammed the lid shut, then instantly reopened it. Her breath hitched. The front porch, the one where she’d skinned her knees countless times, looked smaller, faded. A strange wave of nausea washed over her.

She lurched up from the couch, pacing the living room of her current, sterile apartment. The walls seemed to be closing in. Sunlight, suddenly blinding, streamed through the window. "No, no, no," she whispered, her voice cracking. She had to call someone, anyone.

Her hands shook as she fumbled for her phone. Who to call? Not Mom; not yet. Maybe Liam, her brother. "Liam, have you... have you seen...?" The words caught in her throat. She couldn't even finish the sentence.
