He pulled over to the side of the road, the car vibrating with the sudden stop. The envelope, the official document, lay discarded on the passenger seat. His chest felt tight, constricted by an invisible band. He took deep breaths, trying to calm the storm raging inside. But it was no use. The world around him started spinning, blurring the familiar landscape into an incomprehensible swirl. He slammed his fists on the steering wheel, again and again, the sound lost in the vastness of the empty road. He felt a powerful, visceral need to destroy something, anything, just to feel some semblance of control.
