A wave of dizziness washed over David as he scrolled through the online banking. His vision swam. He gripped the edge of the desk, the cheap laminate cold beneath his clammy hands. The account balance… it was staggering. He felt a prickling heat crawling up his neck.

He slammed his laptop shut, the abrupt sound echoing in the silent apartment. He paced the small living room, his hands clenching and unclenching. He needed to understand. He needed to know why she’d hidden this from him.

"This can't be real," he muttered, his voice hoarse. He thought of their shared dreams, the small, carefully planned vacations, the shared financial struggles. He wanted to scream.
