Gemotions

The package felt heavy, leaden in her arms. Ms. Chen, the science teacher, felt her throat constrict. A framed photograph, a candid shot of her with the science club, laughing. From David, the boy who'd been so shy he barely spoke.

She lowered herself into her chair, her legs suddenly weak. The air felt thin, difficult to breathe. She read the accompanying card: “Thanks for making science fun.” Fun? He thought her lessons were fun?

She took several deep breaths, fighting to maintain control. The room began to swim. She needed to sit still.
