The news consumed her, an all-encompassing force that left her gasping for air. Her carefully laid plans, the future she had envisioned, all dissolved in a single announcement. It was as if everything she had worked for was suddenly worthless.

She started tearing up the syllabus, ripping the neatly arranged papers, and throwing them in the air. The small pieces of paper floated around her, like snow. Each one of them, a piece of her dreams.

She was sweating. Her head was throbbing. She wanted to claw at her own skin. She sat on the floor, and just stared.
