The email. The subject line: *“First Chapter Feedback.”* Her hands were ice. Eleanor, normally so composed, couldn't remember the last time she’d felt this…unmoored. She scrolled through the document, each paragraph a fresh insult, thinly veiled as adoration.

She felt a buzzing in her ears. He had portrayed her as this… fragile, damsel-like creature. Her teeth were clenched so tightly her jaw ached. She felt the urge to scream, to shatter something, anything. The pristine white walls of her office began to feel like a cage.

She spun around in her chair, seeking a point of focus. The sleek lines of her minimalist desk offered no solace. The clock on the wall mocked her with its steady ticking. She had to leave, now. She grabbed her coat and practically bolted from the building.
