The phone call had ended, but the echo of Mrs. Rodriguez's voice still reverberated in Leo's head. His hands shook so badly he couldn't even reach for the glass of water on the table. He stood, frozen in place, a cold sweat breaking across his forehead.

"…Just a few sunflowers, Leo, darling! They'd be such a lovely splash of color..."

Sunflowers. In *his* garden? Where the grass was perfectly green and the lawn chairs were perfectly aligned? He felt his pulse thrumming erratically in his ears, a frantic drumbeat. He began to pace, his steps jerky and uneven.

He considered moving, leaving the country, changing his name. The thought was briefly appealing.
