He’d been refreshing the student portal every five minutes since sunrise. The digital clock on his laptop mirrored his internal restlessness, each second stretching into an eternity. He ran a hand through his already dishevelled hair. Coffee, cold and forgotten, sat in a mug on his desk. The room felt stifling, the air thick with anticipation and dread. He glared at the screen.

His leg bounced furiously. He clicked the refresh button again, a frustrated noise escaping his lips. Nothing. The blank page mocked him. His shoulders slumped.

He slammed the laptop shut, the sound echoing in the silent room. He stood, pacing the small space, his steps quick and uneven. He yanked open a drawer, then slammed it shut again, the pent-up energy seeking an outlet. He knew, deep down, that the news was unlikely to be good. But the wait... it was a torment.
