Gemotions

The phone was practically glued to her ear. "Mom, have you checked the mail?" she asked for the tenth time that morning. Her voice was sharp, a brittle edge to it. The silence on the other end felt like an eternity.

"Yes, honey," her mother's voice finally answered. "Nothing yet."

She let out a frustrated sigh. "Well, keep checking, okay? And text me the second something comes."

She paced around her dorm room, unable to sit still. The floorboards creaked under her restless movement. Her jaw clenched, a muscle twitching in her cheek. She knew, rationally, that the decision could come at any time, but she couldn't quell the rising panic.

She ended the call, and threw her phone onto the bed. It landed with a soft thump, a noise that did little to ease her mounting agitation.
