He chewed on his lip, his gaze fixed on the slow-moving line at the grocery store. His mother was chatting with the cashier, exchanging pleasantries about the weather. He was short on time, and he needed to pay.

He fidgeted, rearranging the items in his basket. *Hurry up,* he thought, his knuckles white around the handle. He had to be back before the deadline. His muscles began to stiffen.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, his mother finished her conversation. He paid, feeling the release and the pressure to move at once.
