The cafeteria was bustling with students, their laughter and chatter a constant, irritating hum in Elena’s ears. She sat alone at a table, her untouched lunch growing cold. Across the room, her accuser, the classmate whose work she was alleged to have copied, was laughing with friends.

Each bite, each sip of her iced coffee was a small, intentional act of defiance. The feeling in her chest, a restless energy that wanted to burst out of her, felt like a pressure cooker on high. Her phone vibrated in her pocket, a reminder of the upcoming deadline for another assignment.

She pushed her plate away, unable to eat. She had to address this, confront the accusations, clear her name. The injustice of it all fueled her, but the delay was killing her.
