"Finally!" Thomas muttered under his breath, jamming the key into the lock of his mentor's office. He'd been stuck in traffic for an hour, delayed at the scene of an accident. His mentor, Dr. Evans, was the only one who could guide him through the final step of his surgery. He checked his watch. Time was running out.

He burst into the office and found it empty. A single, plain envelope sat on the desk. He ripped it open. Inside, a brief note: "Retired. Good luck, Thomas." He balled the note up and chucked it into the nearest trash bin. He had a surgery to prep for. His breath came quickly.
