Her gaze darted between the glossy magazines on the coffee table and the front door, which refused to open. The invitation to a “business dinner” had been vague. She had wanted to see her friend, Maya, and thought this was a good idea. Instead, every passing second was a tick of a very, very slow clock. Maya had been “too busy” to meet up for weeks. Now, she was late for this dinner. The longer she waited, the more frantic her thoughts became. Why was Maya never there? The door finally clicked open, and she leaped to her feet.
