The pasta water was taking forever to boil. Sarah tapped her foot against the kitchen tile, the rhythmic thud a counterpoint to the bubbling anticipation in her chest. Liam had been gone for nearly an hour, supposedly "running errands." It was the way he’d answered the phone, though. A hushed tone, a quick retreat to the back porch. She craned her neck to peek through the blinds; nothing. She grabbed her phone and scrolled through Instagram, then tossed it back on the counter with a frustrated sigh.
