She chewed the inside of her cheek, a nervous tic she hadn't realized she had. The basketball tryouts were over. Sarah had poured her heart and soul into every drill, every scrimmage, every single shot. Now, she was crammed into the noisy locker room, listening to the gossip of others, trying to appear nonchalant. Her leg bounced, a frantic drumbeat against the metal bench. The coach, Mr. Henderson, was supposedly posting the list on the locker room door any second. She glanced toward the door, then away, then back again. The anticipation was a fire, burning a hole in her gut.
