"Just five more minutes," the sign on the door read. John shifted from foot to foot outside the gate, his teeth clenched. It felt like an insult. He had been planning to come here all morning. He’d barely eaten breakfast. This was the most important thing. He didn't know what he would do if it wasn't there.

He glanced at his watch again. The second hand seemed to be crawling across the dial. A car rumbled past, kicking up dust. He pushed his hands deep in his pockets, and the frayed edges of a certain blue blanket scratched against his skin.

Finally, the gate was unlocked, and the woman, all smiles, ushered him in. His gaze swept the displays, his heart hammering in his chest. He saw it immediately. He barely glanced at the price tag. "I'll buy it," he declared with no further hesitation.
