Gemotions

The scent of coffee did little to soothe Eleanor’s nerves. She kept checking the time, tapping her foot against the tiled floor. Every five minutes, she was back at the front window, peering down the street.

Finally, she couldn't stand it. She grabbed her keys and dashed outside, ignoring the slight drizzle. Her fingers fumbled with the mailbox latch.

Inside, she found an unsigned card. Her heart stopped. She turned the card over, looked at the empty back, and crumpled it in her hand. She threw the card in the bin, and looked out over the street, as if expecting the postman to be peeking back.
