The musty scent of aged paper filled Amelia’s nostrils as she flipped through the pages of the used cookbook. She’d been staring at the shelf for half an hour, debating between “Comfort Food Classics” and “Vegetarian Ventures.” Now, settled with the former, she felt a prickle of annoyance. This hunt for the perfect dinner idea was taking longer than expected.

A folded piece of yellowed paper fluttered out. Amelia caught it before it could drift to the floor. She snatched it up, fingers drumming against the worn cover.

The handwriting, a delicate script she didn't recognize, detailed a recipe. No, not a recipe. A confession. The writer’s yearning echoed in every carefully crafted sentence. Amelia felt a small measure of satisfaction, she was in the mood to read.
