The drive to the lab felt interminable. Alex drummed his fingers on the steering wheel, the insistent tap a counterpoint to the slow crawl of traffic. He kept checking his watch, each second stretching into an eternity.

He was going to pick up his DNA report, and the closer he got, the more his breath quickened. He imagined the envelope, the contents, the revelations. He had played every possible scenario in his head.

He finally pulled into the parking lot, practically leaping out of the car. He rushed towards the doors, ignoring the traffic lights. He could almost taste the answers.
