“Honestly,” Margaret huffed, crossing her arms. She tapped her foot, a rapid, staccato beat against the cracked concrete. The silence was deafening, broken only by the occasional distant car horn. She needed the release this demolition would provide. She’d meticulously sorted through everything, packed what she wanted to keep, and donated the rest. The house, in her eyes, had become an empty shell. She checked her watch for the tenth time in as many minutes.

She planned on visiting a friend.
