The DJ wasn't responding to his messages. Liam, already dressed in his sharpest suit, stared out the window at the rain. His party, intended to be the best party, was competing with a more casual event his co-worker, John, was throwing. The stakes were high; Liam needed this to be a success.

He checked the time, then checked his phone again. Still no response. He pictured John's casual backyard bash, carefree and fun. What if everyone preferred that? What if the music wasn't ready in time?

He ran a hand through his hair, the slick gel momentarily losing its hold. Each raindrop seemed to mock him, each one a tiny hammer blow against his carefully constructed plans.
