The air in the music room felt thick and heavy. The silence was suffocating. He waited, drumming his fingers against the worn wooden piano keys. He needed to hear back about the audition. He needed the part. He could almost feel the sweat beading on his forehead.

He'd scrolled through his social media feed dozens of times. He was desperate for the validation he wasn't getting yet.

Another notification. It was from his choir teacher, Mrs. Gable. She'd shared one of his practice videos. It wasn't the news he craved, not yet.
