“Come on, come on, come on,” Mark muttered under his breath, watching the spinning loading icon on his computer screen. The presentation he needed to finalize was due in an hour, and he still hadn’t received the final approval from his boss. The air conditioning was failing again, and the stale air felt thick, making him feel on edge. He drummed his fingers on his desk, the sound loud in his ears.

He’d heard the scuttlebutt about the sale too. He needed to find out what was going on. He was ready to walk across the aisle to the CFO’s office. He leaned back in his chair, only to realize the back of his chair was broken.
