The elevator doors chimed open, and Sarah practically lunged out, her heels clicking a frantic rhythm against the polished floor. Each second felt like an eternity. She’d been waiting for the email, the call, anything. The interview had been last week.

She slammed the coffee cup onto her desk, the lukewarm liquid sloshing over the rim. This was ridiculous. The suspense was a physical weight in her chest. She fiddled with the stapler, organizing the same three documents for the fifth time.

Her phone buzzed. She snatched it up, heart leaping into her throat, only to find a notification about a discount at a shoe store. She threw the phone back down with a frustrated huff. How long could this possibly take?
