Gemotions

The air in the storage unit was stale and heavy, clinging to her clothes like a shroud. Sarah, wiping sweat from her brow, felt a sharp stab of annoyance. She needed to leave; the traffic was going to be awful.

She rummaged through the boxes, kicking at one when it wouldn't open. She needed to find the letter before her next appointment. She was running late.

She found the letter, tucked inside a worn leather-bound book. The words, ‘…a burden I can no longer bear…’ struck a chord of recognition, bringing a strange mix of empathy and a sudden sense of relief.
