Gemotions

The rain hammered against the windows, mirroring the tempest brewing inside her. Maya stared at the unopened letter, the handwriting a ghostly echo of a friendship lost. The dog nudged her hand, seeking affection, but she was too preoccupied, too agitated. She grabbed the envelope, her fingers clumsy and fumbling.

The apology felt thin, insufficient. She wanted to scream, to rail against the injustice of it all. She threw the letter in the fireplace, watching the flames lick at the paper. The fire was growing, the desire to be *rid* of it all was strong. She stalked out of the room.
