The afternoon light filtered through the dusty windows of her apartment, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air. On the coffee table rested a curious package, sent by a student from many years past. She felt a knot in her stomach, an unfamiliar tightness. The box seemed to stare back at her with an unyielding face. She had spent the morning straightening her apartment, and the chore felt like a pointless distraction.

She picked up the box, turning it over in her hands, her fingers tracing the unfamiliar script. She just had to know what was inside. But she didn't want to ruin the moment, the mystery. She sat down, slowly placing the box on her lap, and exhaled.
