The waiting room felt stifling. The air conditioning hummed, a monotonous drone that did little to ease the rising heat in her chest. A package, delivered earlier that day, was the only thing on her mind. It had arrived at her office, and she'd been told to expect it.

She shifted in her chair, the leather squeaking in the quiet room. Her hands kept reaching for it, then retracting. She was supposed to wait for her lunch break. She'd been waiting for years. She needed to know what was inside. She wanted to know now.
