He stared at the irises, their purple hues deepening in the afternoon light. No card. Just the flowers. The delivery boy had been gone for a while, and the silence in the apartment was almost a physical weight. He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it standing on end.

He grabbed his keys and wallet. He strode to the door, a determined look on his face. He'd find out who sent them. He decided he couldn't wait any longer.

He was already halfway down the hall. His mind was racing. He needed answers and he needed them now. The need was overwhelming.
