He paced his cramped apartment, the worn rug offering little comfort to his restless feet. The essay. His essay. There it was, plastered across the university's website, under the heading "Exceptional Admission Essays." He had applied to art school; he was now seeing the results, a mixture of pride and… something else. He glanced at the clock yet again.

He ran a hand through his already messy hair, leaving it standing on end. The application deadlines for his other schools were fast approaching. His future hung in the balance, a flimsy rope he was gripping for dear life. When would those acceptance letters arrive? The uncertainty was practically a physical weight on his shoulders.

He stopped in front of the window, staring at the bustling street below. The world continued to turn, oblivious to his internal turmoil. He kicked at a stray piece of cardboard on the floor, the paper's edge bending. He wanted to scream.
